ABOUT ALANYA

Alanya is a major holiday destination on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast and one of the best-known tourism centres in Antalya Province. The city offers a combination of beaches, historical landmarks, restaurants, cafés, shopping areas, nightlife and a large selection of organised excursions.

One of Alanya’s main advantages is that many of its best-known attractions can be visited independently. Alanya Castle rises above the city and overlooks the Mediterranean, while the Red Tower, Historic Shipyard and old harbour form an important part of the city’s historical waterfront. Damlataş Cave, Cleopatra Beach and the Alanya Cable Car are also located close to the city centre.

Travellers staying in Alanya can combine beach holidays and independent sightseeing with organised day trips throughout the Antalya region. Select your hotel on TOURSUA to see the excursions available from your hotel, current prices and hotel pick-up times.

WHAT CAN YOU SEE IN ALANYA?

Alanya offers a combination of historical landmarks, beaches, natural attractions and panoramic viewpoints.

Alanya Castle is one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks and occupies the peninsula rising above the Mediterranean. Around the harbour area, visitors can see the Red Tower and the Historic Shipyard, two of the most important reminders of Alanya’s medieval history.

On the western side of the peninsula are Damlataş Cave and Cleopatra Beach. The Alanya Cable Car provides another way to reach the castle area while enjoying panoramic views over the city and coastline.

Travelling east from the city centre, visitors can also explore natural attractions such as the Dim River and Dim Cave. Further east, beyond Kestel, Mahmutlar and Kargıcak, lies the ancient city of Syedra.

Not all of these places are included in TOURSUA’s regular organised excursion programmes. For some independent visits, a rental car, taxi or private transport may be a more practical option.

ALANYA CASTLE

Alanya Castle is one of the most important historical landmarks in the city. Located on the peninsula above Alanya, the castle area offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean, the harbour and different parts of the city.

Visitors can explore the castle area independently and combine the visit with the Alanya Cable Car, Damlataş Cave and Cleopatra Beach.

Because the castle covers a large and elevated area, using the cable car, public transport or a taxi can be more comfortable than walking all the way from the city centre, especially during the hot summer months.

RED TOWER AND HISTORIC SHIPYARD

The Red Tower and Historic Shipyard are among Alanya’s best-known historical landmarks and are located close to the old harbour.

The Red Tower stands beside the harbour below Alanya Castle. A short distance away is the Historic Shipyard, built directly beside the Mediterranean.

These attractions can easily be combined with a walk around the old harbour and the lower parts of the Alanya Castle area.

DAMLATAŞ CAVE AND CLEOPATRA BEACH

Damlataş Cave and Cleopatra Beach are located close to each other on the western side of the Alanya peninsula.

Damlataş Cave is one of Alanya’s best-known natural attractions and can easily be visited during a day in the city centre. Cleopatra Beach begins nearby and is one of the most famous beaches in the Alanya region.

The lower station of the Alanya Cable Car is also located in this area, making it possible to combine Damlataş Cave, Cleopatra Beach and Alanya Castle in the same day.

DIM RIVER FROM ALANYA

The Dim River is one of the best-known natural attractions near Alanya.

Flowing from the Taurus Mountains towards the Mediterranean, the river is known for its cool mountain water, natural surroundings and restaurants located along the river. During the hot summer months, it is a popular alternative to spending the entire day at the beach.

Travellers staying in Alanya can visit the Dim River independently by taxi, rental car or private transport. A visit to the Dim River can also be combined with Dim Cave on the same day.

DIM CAVE FROM ALANYA

Dim Cave is one of the important natural attractions in the Alanya region. It is located in the mountains above the coast and offers a very different experience from Alanya’s beaches and resort areas.

Because the cave is situated in the mountains, walking there from the coastal areas is not practical for most visitors, especially during the hot summer months.

For an independent visit from Alanya, a taxi, rental car or private transport is recommended. Dim Cave and the Dim River can also be visited on the same day.

ANCIENT CITY OF SYEDRA FROM ALANYA

The ancient city of Syedra is located east of Alanya, beyond Kestel, Mahmutlar and Kargıcak. It is one of the important archaeological sites in the eastern part of the Alanya region and is situated high above the Mediterranean coast.

Visitors interested in history and archaeology can explore the remains of the ancient settlement while enjoying panoramic views over the surrounding area.

There is no convenient direct public transport connection all the way to the archaeological site. Because Syedra is located high above the main coastal road, walking to the site is not practical for most visitors, particularly during summer.

For an independent visit from Alanya, a rental car, taxi or private transport is recommended.

WHAT TO DO IN ALANYA?

A holiday in Alanya does not have to be limited to the beach. You can spend one day exploring Alanya Castle, the Red Tower, Historic Shipyard, Damlataş Cave, Cleopatra Beach, the old harbour and the Alanya Cable Car, and another day visiting the Dim River, Dim Cave or the ancient city of Syedra.

Travellers who prefer organised activities can choose from boat tours, Green Canyon, rafting, buggy and quad safaris, jeep safaris, the Sea Alanya Dolphin Show and various nature, adventure and cultural excursions with hotel transfers.
